Why I Quit

Every single day I quit the same thing - I quit my work.

Have you ever been home with your family and that little “ding” sound goes off notifying you of a new email? You immediately check it and feel the urgency to respond right away. While you are simply trying to get your thoughts from your head through your fingertips and onto the screen so you can press send, and your child walks over to you and says, “Mommy, look at…” only to be abruptly cut off by you with a response that resembles something like, “Honey, I need you to give mommy just a second - I’m just trying to finish this one thing then I can listen to you.”

The Freedom of Time

As I dropped off Stella at school this morning she said, “Mommy, will you please come eat lunch with me today at school?”

This. This right here is the very reason I went into business for myself. Because I never want to ask anyone else permission for how I spend my time. I looked right at my daughter and said, “I’ll be here. See you in a few hours.”

I Gave Myself A Lot of Grace During that Time

On this very day, five years ago…

We had just celebrated Stella’s first birthday a couple months before. I had just rebranded my business two weeks prior. I was feeling really good about the new year approaching and excited for 2015. But never in my wildest dreams did I anticipate the news I received on this day. “There’s your baby.” She said as she moved the wand across my belly. “And there’s the other baby.”

Gratitude - Not An Easy Discipline, But Worth It
