"A success story for a small shop in a small town, with world wide dreams.
I bought a small shop back in March of 2019. It was a life long dream. However walking into an already up and running florist with new visions and new direction, wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. Have you ever heard the term, can’t teach an old dog new tricks? Well you can’t flip a switch from old to new over night.
I followed Jessica on social media for years. I told my husband that whenever I had a shop I was buying the course. It wasn’t long until I realized I desperately needed guidance.
I should mention, I’m a free spirit. I tell people my spirit animal is a glorious Friesian horse running with the wind. However after about 6months of making very little changes. I began feeling deeply discouraged. I was struggling with the previous owner, vendors were taking advantage of my “new” title, directing employees to change terrified them. All in which left me mentally emotionally and physically exhausted.
8 months after purchasing I was faced with a decision that I didn’t want to be faced with, I needed a hysterectomy, in December. Trying to plan a surgery around the holidays was a like trying play Tetris with all the wrong pieces. I had to be healed and ready to go by Valentines. Valentines is the bank every florist needs to get through the rest of the year, see even I couldn’t get myself out of the old way of thinking. I did, Valentine’s was good, not the best but good. And then March 2020 hit.
My beautiful positive 5 digit bank account, quickly went to red. Not just one or two digits but to 4 digit red.
See I’m a physical learner. I love to read I love to visualize the endgame. However, I am not an aggressive person. I had completed all the courses, changed my own way of thinking, but had not completely changed the way the store was ran. But March forced me to go back and actually put everything into action with the BBB. Suddenly with no money, it was way easier to cancel ridiculous subscription that was still lingering from the previous owner. Suddenly it was the perfect moment to completely reset the sales floor and actually put my vision into design! I went from a 6 (wo)man team to solo. And I found I could run a whole shop by myself. I began blogging, using social media to every advantage possible! And I learned my raw honesty actually brought more customers to the shop. I got complements for my “new” shop! I actually began running a florist, instead of a business running me!
When Mother’s Day drew closure I was able to bring back a few employees, re open the shop and now we have a brand new website. A completely new way of running the shop. Employees are happy. Customers are in love. Vendors have learn that my sweet smile doesn’t mean I’m stupid, but I actually do know my numbers and I know how to find the best pricing.
Because of BBB I have completely restructured my shop, I not only survived the shutdown (and almost bankruptcy) but I actually came out so much better than ever before!
So here’s my digital high five ✋🏻! Thank you all at BBB for all of your hard work! This small town florist has big dreams! And I now can see them as future accomplishments, not just unrealistic goals. Whether or not this is the success story you choose, it’s my favorite of all. Not only did I gain knowledge, recovery, and stability. I gained confidence, in myself, my shop, and my future!
